PUBLISHED: | UPDATED:

R. Kelly pleaded not guilty to the latest wave of sexual abuse charges against him.

The scandal-plagued R&B singer appeared in a Cook County, Ill., court Thursday and issued a not-guilty plea for the 11 counts that were handed down against him late last month.

The new charges against the “I Believe I Can Fly” artist include four counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault that are categorized as Class X felonies, which each come with a maximum 30-year sentence if convicted.

Kelly, 52, has denied any wrongdoing.

He previously pleaded not guilty to 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual assault for alleged incidents involving four victims, including three who prosecutors say were underage at the time.

Kelly’s lawyer, Steve Greenberg, contends that the 11 new counts that came down against his client on May 30 do not involve a new accuser.

“These ‘new’ charges are not really new — they are the same conduct, just charged differently, same alleged victim, same time frame, same facts,” Greenberg told the Daily News in an email last month. “There are still four cases, not five. And we still expect the same results.”

The latest charges do not specify whether the accuser is one of four women involved in the initial charges.

Kelly for years has denied allegations of sexual misconduct, including allegations involving minors. He was acquitted of all charges in 2008 at the end of a lengthy and highly publicized child pornography trial.
