CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Officials have identified a 2-week-old baby girl who was killed by a family dog Friday.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner's Office has identified her as Sophia Booth, spokesman Chris Harris confirms.

The incident happened just before 7 p.m. on Carrington Avenue near West 130th Street in the city's Puritas-Longmead neighborhood, Cleveland police spokesman Det. Reginald Lanton said.

She was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center where she died, police said.

Police responded to a report of a child who suffered head trauma from being bitten by the dog, Lanton said.

She was in the first floor of a bedroom when the dog, a German Shepherd, got loose from the kitchen where it was fenced in and bit her.

The city's prosecutor's office will consulted for possible charges.
