Trump says Nancy Pelosi is the one who’s ‘crazy’ as she raises 25th Amendment

President Trump on Thursday returned fire at House Speaker Nancy Pelosi after she teased a Friday announcement on using the 25th Amendment to strip him of presidential powers.

Pelosi (D-Calif.) raised the improbable temporary ouster of Trump as she continued to attack his mental fitness as he recuperates from COVID-19.

“Crazy Nancy is the one who should be under observation. They don’t call her Crazy for nothing!” Trump tweeted.

The House speaker teased using a provision of the 25th Amendment against Trump during a Thursday morning press conference.

“Tomorrow. Come here tomorrow. We’re going to be talking about the 25th Amendment,” Pelosi said.

At the press conference, Pelosi questioned Trump’s grasp of reality, citing his morning declaration in a TV interview that he’s “a perfect physical specimen” and “extremely young.”

“He’s a perfect physical specimen, did he say? Specimen, maybe I could agree with that. And young, he said he was young? His association from reality would be funny if it weren’t so deadly,” Pelosi said.

Pelosi on Wednesday said on “The View” that Trump’s use of the steroid dexamethasone to combat the virus may impede his judgment.

Pelosi has not clarified what she’s announcing with regard to the 25th Amendment, which was ratified in 1967 and allows for the vice president to serve as “Acting President” under certain extreme circumstances.

Section 4 of the amendment allows the vice president and cabinet — or another entity chosen by Congress — to take power from the president without the chief executive’s consent.

The amendment says “the Vice President and a majority of either the principal officers of the executive departments or of such other body as Congress may by law provide” must make a “written declaration that the President is unable to discharge the powers and duties of his office.”

Spokespeople for Vice President Mike Pence did not immediately respond to a request for comment, but it’s wholly improbable that Pence and a majority of Trump’s cabinet would strip him of power as they campaign together ahead of the Nov. 3 election.

Congress has not passed a law describing an alternate entity authorized to make that decision, though the amendment allows lawmakers to do so.

It’s unclear if Pelosi intends to push for a new legislative procedure to oust a president. But even if such a bill passed the House, it would fail in the Republican-held Senate.

Trump and Pelosi tangled for years in acrimonious exchanges, heightened since December by the House impeaching Trump for urging Ukraine to investigate Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden and his son Hunter, who earned a reported $83,333 a month on the board of energy company Burisma while his father led the Obama administration’s Ukraine policy.

In May, Trump called Pelosi a “sick woman” with “mental problems” after she disparaged him as “morbidly obese” in a TV interview.
