Newly freed man sent back to jail for trying to steal car from parking lot

A Florida inmate was busted as soon as he left a jail dubbed the LOL detention center for trying to steal a ride home from the parking lot — even trying to break into sheriff’s department vehicles, according to authorities.

Dennis Libonati, 68 — who is originally from White Plains — had just been released from Land O’ Lakes jail when he tried to bust into 26 different cars on Monday night, according to his arrest affidavit.

They included two sheriff’s office vehicles, with him getting inside the back of a Dodge Ram pickup and then hot-wiring a Kawasaki Mule ATV before getting stopped, according to the documents.

Once confronted by officers, Libonati admitted trying to bust into all the vehicles “with the intent to steal one to use for transportation,” the affidavit states.

Noting that he had “just been released” from what the report calls the “LOL Detention facility,” he was immediately arrested — and taken straight back into the jail he just left.

He was also hit with 28 charges: attempted auto burglary for each car he tried to break in, one for auto burglary for getting inside the pickup truck and another for grand theft for hot-wiring the ATV.

Libonati is also facing a probation violation count that first landed him in jail on Monday.
