City kids will have to wait until Monday evening for de Blasio’s snow day ruling

City kids and their parents will have to wait until Monday evening for Mayor Bill de Blasio to rule on a potential Tuesday snow day.

“We’re trying to get to a firm yes or no by the end of the evening,” Hizzoner said at a morning press conference with the Office of Emergency Management.

The Department of Education canceled all after school activities involving school buses Monday in anticipation of swirling snowfall and an ugly evening commute.

But city kids pining for a Fortnite and Frosted Flakes furlough might want to temper their hopes. De Blasio indicated that a closure was unlikely unless conditions and forecasts changed drastically.

“Right now of course school has opened today, everything is moving smoothly,” he said.  “We anticipate school being open tomorrow. We’re going to obviously watch the storm closely into the evening,. If anything changes we will certainly alert the people of this city but right now assume school is open tomorrow.”

The mayor promised to expedite a final decision.

“I know how much parents value getting the information as early as possible on the next day so my message to parents right now is school is on tomorrow, assume it’s one,” he said.

As has become custom during snowfalls, official city Twitter accounts were flooded with demands from purported teachers and students alike to shutter schools in light of the inclement weather.

“De Blasio this is your time to shine give us early dismissal,” pleaded one user on the DOE’s account mid-Monday.
