RRR made waves worldwide since it first hit the screens in March this year. And since then, we haven’t stopped hearing about it. The man behind this cinematic masterpiece is none other than SS Rajamouli, who also helmed Bahubali, a film that generated just as much fervour. The film is back in the news, this time for possibly contesting a spot in the Oscar 2022 nominations under the visual effects category.

The film which stars some of the biggest names in the Indian film industry—N. T. Rama Rao Jr., Ram Charan, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt—was made with a budget of ₹550 crores—the most expensive film to be made in the country. But the massive investment did reel in the desired results, with it earning the spot for the fourth highest-grossing Indian movie to be made and the second highest-grossing Telugu film worldwide. The film has amassed a sizable fan following, which was left disappointed when RRR was not selected as India’s official entry to the Oscars this year. If you’re somebody who’s seen the film, regardless of what your opinion may be on the plot, it’s not hard to agree that the visual effects used in the movie are outstanding and very life-like.

This, however, didn’t deter SS Rajamouli, who has now submitted RRR for the Oscars under the “for your consideration” section. As per reports, the film could gain a spot in the 2022 nominations for “best visual effects” and could be competing with movies like Batman, Black Panther 2, Top Gun 2 and Avatar 2 at the 95th Academy Awards which will take place on March 12, 2023.

The erudite filmmaker, in the meanwhile, has been campaigning aggressively with his lead actors Jr NTR and Ram Charan to get his film that coveted Oscar. He has been making rounds of the international awards circuit and recently took home the trophy for the best director at the New York Film Critics Circle, which was founded back in 1935 and is the oldest critic group in the States.
