Have you been staring at a television outside for weeks because your neighbor can’t figure out how to recycle it? Do you even know how to dispose of your old motor oil? Are your credit cards too thick for your shredder? If you answered yes to any of the above, you’re in luck.

Northampton Country Executive Lamont McClure and the Northampton County Department of Public Works are partnering up this year to provide Northampton County residents with three disposal service events: one for electronics recycling, one for household hazardous waste disposal and one for shredding documents.

Just drop off your unwanted clutter/waste and they'll take care of the rest.

The following events are intended for Northampton County residents and those attending will be required to provide I.D. Find more details below:

What electronics can you recycle and how much will it cost?

  • Miscellaneous electronics: cables and cords, cell phones, servers/towers, circuit boards, laptops, telephones, keyboards and mice, tablets, hard drives, toner and ink cartridges, desktop computers and lead acid battery - $0
  • Miscellaneous electronics: 35 mm slide projectors, alarm clocks, answering machines, calculators, cameras, CD players/recorders, coffee makers, dictation equipment, electric pencil sharpeners, electric razors, electronic typewriters, fax machines, joy sticks, microphones, modems, movie projectors, pagers, power tools, radios, record players, stereo/walkmans, stereo speakers, string lights, tape recorders/decks, toasters, VCRs and video game consoles - $1
  • Batteries: $0.75/lb.
  • Fluorescent bulbs: $0.25
  • Specialty bulbs: $2
  • Computer equipment: $0.50 to $20
  • Household items: humidifiers, microwaves and vacuums - $3 to $5 NO Freon appliances will be accepted
  • Televisions and monitors (which must be intact): $10 to $50

Residents can pay by cash or by checks made out to Clean Earth. Credit cards will not be accepted.

  • May 9 - Easton Recycling Center - 500 Bushkill Dr., Easton
  • June 13 - Northampton Borough Community Center - 1601 Laubach Ave., Northampton
  • September 19 - Bethlehem Municipal Ice Rink - 345 Illick’s Mill Rd., Bethlehem
  • September 26 - Forks Twp. Public Works Facility - 100 Newlins Rd. East, Forks Township
  • October 17 - Easton Recycling Center - 500 Bushkill Dr., Easton

What household hazardous waste can you drop off?

  • Automotive products: motor oil, transmission / starter / brake fluid, antifreeze, fuel additives, gasoline oil, gas/oil mixture, grease and rust solvents
  • Household products: acids, adhesives/glues, aerosols, ballasts, batteries (non-alkaline), caulking, caustics, CFLs, cleaners, compounds, degreasers, drain openers, fire extinguishers, flammables, fluorescent tubes, kerosene, mothballs/flakes, oxidizers, reactives, thermostats and thermometers
  • Outdoor products: asphalt/driveway sealers, roof cement, propane tanks (20 lbs. or less), fertilizer, pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, weed killers, swimming pool chemicals
  • Paint products: oil-based paint, remover, shellac, solvent, sprays, stain, stripper, varnish, thinner, turpentine
  • RESTRICTED MATERIALS: NO alkaline batteries (trash), ammunition/explosives, appliances/scrap metal/white goods, bulk waste, commercial/industrial waste, electronics, fireworks/flares, Freon, gas cylinders/helium tanks, infectious/medical waste/SHARPS, latex/water-based paint, radioactive waste, smoke/carbon monoxide detectors, tires, unidentified waste

Where/when can you recycle household hazardous waste?

  • May 16 from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. (rain or shine) - Northampton Community College - 3835 Green Pond Road, Bethlehem Township.

This is the only household hazardous waste collection event which will be offered to Northampton County residents in 2020. This collection is event is intended for Northampton County residents only. Proof of residency is required.

What can you shred?

Accepted items include:

  • Accounting files
  • Cancelled checks
  • Credit/rewards cards
  • Credit card applications
  • Credit card numbers
  • Employee pay stubs
  • Financial statements
  • Investment transactions
  • Legal documents
  • Medical records
  • Personal documents
  • SSN numbers
  • Tax forms
  • Staples, paper clips, rubber bands, metal clips and folders can all be shredded are all fine
  • NO ring binders, metal strips, plastic sheet protectors or coverings
  • NO junk mail, magazines, catalogs, etc.

Event is free for Northampton Country residents only. There is a limit of 2 bags/boxes per vehicle with a 25 lbs. weight limit per bag/box. Containers must be taken back with resident.

  • May 2 - Nazareth Borough Municipal Office - 134 S Main St., Nazareth
  • September 12 - Cliff Cowling Field Pavilion (next to basketball court) - 301 Allen St., Bath
