Spice Girls highly anticipated reunion tour disappoints some fans: ‘sound is really THAT bad’

Sixteen tour dates were added in London alone to accommodate the demand and all shows around the world were sold out. However, on Feb. 1, 2008, they announced that the tour would come to an end in Toronto due to personal commitments.

On May 31, 1998, Geri Halliwell officially announced her departure from the group. Here, her lawyer speaks at a press conference in London to dozens of reporters. "Sadly I would like to confirm that I have left the Spice Girls. This is because of differences between us. I'm sure the group will continue to be successful and I wish them all the best," she said through her lawyer. She also claimed that she was suffering from exhaustion and wanted to take a break.

Here, the group smiles for photos at the British Fashion Awards on Oct. 22, 1996 where they won their first three awards. The same month, the girls also released their next singles "Say You'll Be There" and "2 Become 1."

In Feb. 1997, the Spice Girls won their first two Brit Awards for Best British Video for "Say You'll Be There" and Best British Single for "Wannabe." They also put on an iconic performance where Geri Halliwell wore an very tiny Union Jack dress, one of the most iconic of the group.

The Spice Girls (minus Victoria "Posh" Beckham) have kicked off their long-awaited reunion tour, taking the stage for their first performance in Dublin, Ireland.

The success starts to pour in! After their first series of singles topped charts in more than 53 countries, the world knew these girls were here to stay. In Nov. of 1996, the group released their debut album "Spice" in Europe with a reaction that mirrored Beatlemania. Millions of copies were sold before it even reached its United States release later in Feb. 1997.

On June 28, 2007, after nearly 7 years since launching their solo careers, the group held a press conference at The O2 Arena in London revealing their plan to reunite. They also announced a worldwide concert tour that would begin later that December. Tickets to "The Return of the Spice Girls" World Tour sold out in seconds for their first London date.

After an eight-month break from the group to start families, the girls were back in the studio! In Aug. of 1999, the Spice Girls began recording their third and final studio album. In Nov. of 2000, they released "Forever," their most mature album with an R&B sound. The album only peaked at 39 on the Billboard 200 albums chart in the U.S. but climbed to number 2 in the UK. The same year they also launched their last book "Forever Spice" as they smile at the launch in 1999.

By the end of 1997, the girls had racked up dozens of awards with only one album under their belt. The group smiles with two awards at the 1997 Billboard Music Awards where they eventually took home 4 awards including New Artist of the Year, Hot 100 Singles Group of the Year, Album Group of the Year, and Album of the Year for "Spice."

After "Spice" was released in the United States, it became the best-selling album of 1997, peaking at number one and being certified Platinum 7 times. In total, more than 28 million copies of "Spice" were sold around the world becoming the biggest-selling album of all-time by an all-female group. More trouble in paradise? Later in 1998, only Emma Bunton and Melanie Chisholm attended the MTV Europe Music Awards to collect their trophies for Best Pop Act and Best Group for a second time. It was later revealed that the missing members, Melanie Brown and Victoria Adams, were both pregnant at the time.

The girls performed their first British show for the Royalty of Great Britain, where they made history when Mel B and Geri Halliwell kissed Prince Charles' cheeks and pinched his bottom clearly breaking royal protocol. The May 9, 1997 event caused quite a deal of controversy and talk in Europe but by the looks of the photos, it seems like Prince Charles might have enjoyed it!

In Jan. 1998, the Spice Girls debuted their first movie "Spice World," a musical comedy where the girls played themselves before leading up to a concert at London's Royal Albert Hall. The film was a box office hit and took in $100 million worldwide. The girls all donned matching white pant suits to the U.S. premiere on Jan. 22, 1998.

In Jan. of 1998, Victoria Adams announced that she was engaged to British footballer David Beckham as they two posed for photos. In March of 1999, Beckham gave birth to their first son Brooklyn and got married to David in Ireland later that year. The same year, Melanie Brown also married to dancer Jimmy Gulzer and gave birth to their daughter Phoenix Chi.

By Oct. 1997, the Spice Girls released the first single off their second album "Spiceworld" called "Spice Up Your Life." It was an instant hit in the UK and later around the world making it the group's 5th consecutive number one hit single. By November, "Spiceworld" was released and was no surprise when it became a global best seller. In Feb. 1994, more than 400 women found their way to auditions for a girl band after an ad was placed in The Stage magazine. After several weeks of deliberation, Victoria Adams, Melanie Brown, Melanie Chisholm and Michelle Stephenson were among 12 chosen for a second round of auditions with Geri Halliwell joining the second week. The lucky ladies were chosen for the band initially called Touch. However, Stephenson was quickly fired and replaced by Emma Bunton who came up with the name Spice.

The show must go on! The four remaining Spice Girls carried on with their world tour that was now approaching North America. Their original choreography was scrapped and a new performance was made to accommodate the missing member. Even without Halliwell, the North American tour was a big success with 40 sold-out dates and more than $40 million in revenue.

A new direction for the girls. By the end of 1997, the group fired their manager Simon Fuller and decided to run the group themselves. The news made front pages around the world while many believed that their decision was not a smart one since he was the true mastermind behind their success. In Feb. 1998, the group released their last major single "Stop."

After months of dealing with contracts with different management companies, the group eventually signed a deal with Virgin Records in Sept. 1995. The name was eventually changed to Spice Girls and they got right to work releasing their debut single "Wannabe" on July 7, 1996 in the United Kingdom. They also had stage names: Melanie Brown was Scary Spice, Melanie Chisholm was Sporty Spice, Emma Bunton was Baby Spice, Victoria Adams was Posh Spice and Geri Halliwell was Ginger Spice.

Also in 2012, the group performed a medley of "Wannabe" and "Spice Up Your Life" at the 2012 Summer Olympics closing ceremony in London. It would be their last appearance together.
