The general election campaign is officially under way. Here's what happened on the second day.

In a sentence: Two former Labour MPs told voters not to support Jeremy Corbyn, the parties traded blows on the economy, a "Remain alliance" was unveiled and a Tory candidate stood aside over "ill-judged" rape comments.

In a paragraph: Ian Austin and John Woodcock voiced their concerns about the Labour leader. But shadow chancellor John McDonnell shrugged off the attacks as he promised a £150bn spending spree for hospitals, schools and homes. Sajid Javid said the Tories would borrow more to help pay for new infrastructure.

In 100 words: The attacks on Mr Corbyn were followed by the Jewish Chronicle newspaper urging people not to vote for him because of the party's handling of antisemitism claims.

Mr McDonnell claimed Mr Austin was "employed by the Tories" and accused the Jewish Chronicle of being "behind the times".

The Liberal Democrats, Greens and Plaid Cymru agreed to field only one candidate between them in 60 constituencies.

Boris Johnson - who campaigned in the North, Scotland and Northern Ireland - faced questions over the selection of Nick Conrad, before he decided to stand down as a candidate.
