Michigan Adds Over 500 New Coronavirus Cases Wednesday

The state reported 517 new cases of the virus, bringing the statewide case total to more than 89,000.

MICHIGAN β€” Michigan health officials reported an increase of more than 500 new coronavirus cases Wednesday as the statewide case total eclipsed 89,000.

The state reported 517 new cases of the coronavirus Wednesday, bringing Michigan's case total to 89,271, according to the most recent data provided by Michigan health officials. Michigan also reported nine new deaths attributed to the virus, bringing the coronavirus death toll in Michigan to 6,273.

The state reported close to 800 new cases on Tuesday, while adding seven additional deaths.

Michigan ranks 18th in the U.S. in coronavirus cases, according to data provided by the World Health Organization. California, Florida and Texas make up the Top 3 states in coronavirus cases in the U.S. Michigan ranks ninth in the nation in deaths attributed to the coronavirus, a category it has previously ranked as high as third in.

The U.S. leads the world in coronavirus cases, according to the World Health Organization, with more than 5.3 million cases reported. Brazil (3.1 million) and India (2.3 million) are ranked No. 2 and No. 3 behind the U.S., respectively.

More than 168,000 deaths have been attributed to the coronavirus in the U.S., while the World Health Organization reports that more than 2.7 million people in the U.S. have recovered from the virus.

Over 20.6 million cases of the coronavirus have been reported around the world, according to the World Health Organization. Of those cases, more than 749,000 have resulted in deaths, while over 13.5 million people have recovered from the virus. More than 6.3 million cases remain active worldwide.
