Lamptey has been in fine form for Brighton this season, with 22 premier League appearances following a lengthy layoff last campaign.

Seagulls boss Graham Potter will be hoping Lamptey's illness is not too serious and will be available after the international break.

Brighton are in desperate need of a win after losing their last six games. They will take on Norwich on April 2.

Meanwhile, England still have work to do if they are to reach Euro 2023, three points behind qualification group leaders Czech Republic with two games in hand ahead of Friday's game against minnows Andorra and Tuesday's trip to Albania.

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has been given the captain's armband in Marc Guehi's absence. 'Everyone is made up for Marc, Conor and the other lads who have gone up,' Harwood-Bellis said.

'Obviously we want them to be in our team because they are top players and top lads. But if they're going up to play in the seniors, everyone is made up for them.'
