The Vogue Editors On Their Favourite Ever Jeans
“I have often said that I wish I had invented blue jeans: the most spectacular, the most practical, the most relaxed and nonchalant,” the late Yves Saint Laurent once said. “They have expression, modesty, sex appeal, simplicity – all I hope for in my clothes.”
Owning a great pair of jeans takes all of the effort out of pulling together an outfit. If you have jeans that fit like a glove, with a considered cut, flattering shape and perfect length, then little else is needed to complete your look. Even throwing on a simple white T-shirt will suffice.
The Vogue editors, obviously, have some experience in this field. Their trick? Find the style that works best for you, treat them with care, and they’ll serve you well for years. Aftercare is key to extending the shelf-life of your denim. “Always wash denim inside out and on nothing more than 30 degrees,” advises British Vogue’s deputy editor and fashion features director Sarah Harris, who also warns: “Never tumble dry.”

Naomi Smart, commerce director
“A low rise, wide leg cut has always been a denim go-to for me. And right now I’m switching between really baggy skater type jeans and this slightly more elegant Mica style which is great for office days.”
Laura Ingham, deputy director, global fashion network
“These oversized boyfriend jeans by Raey are so good that I’m considering buying them in every colour. They have a relaxed fit that hangs off the hips, and look as good with a heel as my favourite pair of trainers.”
Twiggy Jalloh, beauty & wellness associate
“We all know that Levi’s are for forever so I got my hands on this timeless denim set that I can wear for almost every occasion. I dress the pieces up with heels and statement jewellery, and dress them down with Dr Martens and a baggy, tucked in T-shirt. Both pieces are well constructed and look so good on.”
Sarah Harris, global network lead and European deputy editor
“I always favour a no-fuss classic straight leg jean, ideally in a washed but true-blue denim and with a raw hem. This shape literally works with everything. Top tip: if you’re looking for denim inspiration, Google the late Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy, I love her in jeans.”
Deborah Ababio, global entertainment director
“For jeans, my go-to brand is Levi’s. From the shapes to colourways, they have such a timeless elegance wearable element.”
Hannah Coates, beauty & wellness editor
“I rarely wear jeans but when I do, I pretty much always wear the Levi’s Ribcage style. Flattering on all figures, including my own curvy one, they nip in at the waist and fit my legs like a glove – making them a rare find.”
