Alabama Approaches 100,000 Coronavirus Cases

Although new cases have decreased over the last two weeks, Alabama will surpass 100,000 total COVID-19 cases this week.

MONTGOMERY, AL β€” Alabama will likely surpass 100,000 total cases of COVID-19 this week, as the state total Monday sits at 99,390 cases. The Alabama Department of Public Health confirmed 1,665 new cases of the virus Monday, and added 26 COVID-19 deaths to its total, bringing the fatality count to 1,733.

The state has seen a downward trend in the last few weeks, as the ADPH has confirmed 19,587 new cases of the virus in the last 14 days. A total of 1,595 patients are currently hospitalized in Alabama with COVID-19.

Almost a month has passed since Gov. Kay Ivey announced the statewide face-covering order, and since then, the average daily new case total has seen a steady fall.
