Vintage TV, lovers rejoice!

Little House on the Prairie has found a new home. All 9 seasons of the hit American western series are now available to stream on Amazon Prime.

The original show, which was based on the widely popular Laura Ingalls Wilder novels, aired from 1974 to 1982 on NBC.

Little House on the Prairie followed the Ingalls family — husband Charles Ingalls, wife Caroline, and their three daughters, Mary, Laura, and Carrie — on their small farm near the village of Walnut Grove, Minnesota, in the 1800s.

While the show primarily focused on the family’s second daughter, Laura (Melissa Gilbert), it was praised for tackling tough subjects including alcoholism, faith, poverty, illness, and racism.

Gilbert, who appeared in nearly every episode of the series, credited the show with shaping her into the person she is today.

“The most formative years of my life — from the time I was nine until I was 19 — were spent on that set,” she told Parade. “I tell people sometimes that I didn’t grow up in the 1970s. I grew up in the 1870s. It’s who I am. That experience shaped me in a huge way as a professional, certainly, but also as a person. I don’t know who I would have been if I hadn’t had that show.”

In November, the cast mourned the death of Katherine “Scottie” MacGregor, the actress who played the villainous Harriet Oleson on the long-running TV show.

“I just got word that Katherine MacGregor passed away yesterday,” Gilbert wrote. “This woman taught me so much… about acting… vintage jewelry…life. She was outspoken and hilariously funny. A truly gifted actress as she was able to play a despicable character but with so much heart. Her Harriet Oleson was the woman our fans loved to hate. A perfect antagonist.”

“The thing people outside of our prairie family didn’t know, was how loving and nurturing she was with the younger cast,” she continued. “I really loved her and I find great comfort knowing that she is at peace and, per her beliefs, her soul has moved on to its next incarnation. Farewell Scottie. I hope with all my heart we meet again next time.”
