Plane crashes after overshooting Hamptons runway in emergency landing

A 75-year-old pilot attempting to make an emergency landing with a small plane Saturday overshot a runway at a Hamptons airport and crashed into some shrubs, but no injuries were reported, authorities said.

The pilot, a New York City man, took off from East Hampton Airport and headed west before the plane suffered engine failure, according to the Southampton Town Police Department.

He tried to land the plane at Gabreski Airport in Westhampton around 1 p.m. but couldn’t make the runway. Instead, it plowed into nearby bushes by County Road 104 in East Quogue.

State police are investigating the crash.
