STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. -- The Michael Sykes double-murder retrial featured graphic testimony, emotional accounts from first responders and relatives, and dozens of witnesses and exhibits.
Sykes was convicted of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder in the brutal stabbing deaths of his girlfriend Rebecca Cutler’s two younger daughters – one of whom was his – and the severe wounding of a third child in the Ramada Inn hotel in Willowbrook in February 2016.
He faces up to life in prison when sentenced in three weeks in state Supreme Court, St. George.
Well-known lawyer Mario F. Gallucci presented an impassioned defense for Sykes, but it ultimately didn’t go the defendant’s way.
Gallucci will be available via live chat to field questions from SILive.com readers on the case Monday at 2 p.m.
