DETROIT -- The world was rocked by news that five-time NBA Champion Kobe Bryant died on Sunday.
TMZ reported that the 41-year-old and his daughter, Gianna Bryant, 13, and seven other people died in a helicopter crash in Calabassas, Calif. The group was on their way to Bryant’s basketball game at the Mamba Academy. The cause of the crash is still unknown.

Over the course of his 20-year career, Bryant was known for his competitive drive. Players past and present have said nothing but positive things about the “Mamba Mentality.” In the hours following the news, several players around the league shared thoughts of shock and sorrow, as well as stories of how Bryant served as an inspiration.
In honor of the legend, teams around the league let the shot clock expire on the opening possessions of games on Sunday. Atlanta Hawks point guard Trae Young wore the number 8 in honor of Bryant.
Bryant, who played his entire career with the Los Angeles Lakers, faced the Pistons a total of 42 times from 1996-2016. The Lakers won 26 of them including the Piston’s visit to Los Angeles during Bryant’s final season. The Pistons won the two teams’ matchup in Detroit.
