LEESBURG, VA — While New Year's Day is often a day to recover from the previous night's festivities, if you do plan to head out, be aware the holiday may affect the hours of area government offices, schools, public transportation and more.
We have your roundup of what's open and what's closed in Leesburg this New Year's Day.
Leesburg Government Offices: All town offices and facilities will close at noon on Dec. 31 and will remain closed on Jan. 1.

State courts: Circuit Court, General District Court and Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court are closed New Year's Day.
Loudoun County Public Schools: Students are on winter break Dec. 23-Jan 3. All offices are closed.

Leesburg Police Department: Administrative offices will be closed half a day on Dec. 31 and all day on Jan. 1. Leeesburg police officers and dispatchers will be on duty 24/7 on these days. The Loudoun County Sheriff's Office's administrative offices will be closed Jan. 1. Its deputies and telecommunications staff will be on duty 24/7 on these days. The Loudoun Detention Center's visiting hours and instructions are listed on its website.
Parking: From Nov. 27 until 8 a.m. on Jan. 2, 2020, parking will be free in the Town Hall Parking Garage, at the Church Street parking lot, and at all on-street meters.
Post Offices: Closed Jan. 1. No mail will be delivered.
Loudoun County Transit: No service Jan. 1.
Loudoun County Public Library: All branches will close at 5 p.m. on Dec. 31 and remain closed on Jan. 1.
Trash & Recycling: No collection on Jan. 1. All collections will be shifted by one day.
Movie Theaters: Most area movie theaters will be open New Year's Day. We would encourage calling your theater of choice to confirm hours.
Grocery Stores: Area grocery stores hours are as follows:
- Safeway, 437 S King St.: 7 a.m.-11 p.m. on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Food Lion. 720 S King St. : 7 a.m.-11 p.m. on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Giant, 61 Catoctin Cir NE: 6 a.m.-9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Harris Teeter, 19350 Winmeade Dr.: 5 a.m.-midnight on Dec. 31 and Jan. 1.
- Wegmans, 101 Crosstrail Boulevard Southeast: Closing at 8 p.m. on Dec. 31 and opening at 6 a.m. on Jan. 1.
