Sid Haig, star of ‘Devil’s Rejects’ and ‘Jackie Brown,’ dead at 80

This world has lost a cult-movie legend.

Sid Haig, best known for playing Captain Spaulding in horror films by Rob Zombie — including “House of 1,000 Corpses” and its sequel “The Devil’s Rejects” — died Saturday. The actor was 80.

“He has returned to the Universe, a shining star in her heavens,” his wife Susan L. Oberg wrote in a post on his Instagram. In a since-deleted comment posted Sept. 13, Oberg wrote that Haig — whose given name was Sidney Eddie Mosesian — had taken a “nasty spill” but was “winning the fight,” Entertainment Weekly reported.

“This came as a shock to all of us,” the death announcement post continued. “We, as a family, are asking that our privacy and time to mourn be respected.”

Famous fans remembered the beloved actor.

“What a talent and energy,” commented Rosario Dawson.

“Rest easy Sid,” wrote fellow “3 From Hell” actor Jeff Daniel Phillips.

After a string of iconic drive-in blaxploitation movie flicks in the 1970s, Haig made a mainstream comeback in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” and “Kill Bill: Vol. 2.”

While Haig played a part in Zombie’s latest “3 From Hell” series installment, health issues reportedly stopped him from taking on a bigger part.
