If pop music is dead, nobody told Blackpink. So far in 2020, Jisoo, Rosé, Jennie, and Lisa have breathed fresh life into the genre with their 2020 album How You Like That, and lent their K-Pop magic to “Sour Candy” on Lady Gaga’s Chromatica. (“I’m sour candy / So sweet then I get a little angry...”) Now, Selena Gomez has announced her own collab with the South Korean foursome – and it’s set to be every bit as much of an auditory sugar rush.

Titled “Ice Cream”, the track will drop on 28 August, with an accompanying video potentially in the works. Over the last few days, Gomez has posted a number of teasers for the collab, including bubblegum-pink graphics and an ice-cream truck license plate reading “SelPink”. “SelPink in your area soon,” the cooking show host wrote alongside an Instagram pic of her enjoying a rapidly melting cone. While no audio clips have been shared just yet, it’s been revealed that musician Tommy Brown has both written and produced the track. Brown is best known for his work with Ariana Grande – having collaborated with the Signs fan on tracks for both My Everything and Dangerous Woman, as well as working on “Thank U, Next”.

Fittingly, no one is more excited for “Ice Cream” to drop than Grande herself. A long-term fan of Blackpink, the 27-year-old joked that she “would probably pass out” if she ever had the chance to work with the K-Pop idols in the summer of 2019. “Proud of the squad and so excited for this,” she wrote on Instagram Stories on 21 August alongside the “Ice Cream” artwork. “So much love for this team and these ladies.” If there was any doubt left that this song would be a sensation, having Grande as hype girl surely killed it.
