CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A second person has died in Cuyahoga County of coronavirus, but the county Board of Health refuses to disclose details about the deceased.
“We are not offering details about the cases other than the aggregate overview that Dr. Gullett provides at the press updates,” said board spokesman Kevin Brennan.
Dr. Heidi Gullet is the Case Western Reserve University School of Medicine population health liaison at the Cuyahoga County Board of Health. She gives county briefings Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:45 a.m. She also leads a team of disease detectives tracking coronavirus cases and clusters.
Cuyahoga’s second death is one of eight deaths statewide, out of 564 cases, reported by the Ohio Department of Health on Tuesday. Cuyahoga has 167 cases.
Ohio Health Director Dr. Amy Acton on Saturday confirmed Cuyahoga’s first death, a 91-year-old man, who was the third death in the state.
The Cuyahoga Board of Health website says it updates case information every day at 3 p.m. But at 4 p.m. Tuesday, the information was blank.
Other county health departments have been more forthcoming with public information.
Erie County Health Department early Saturday announced an 81-year-old man was the second death in the state.
The Toledo-Lucas County Health Department on Friday sent a news release about the state’s first death, noting the individual involved was a male in his 70s who had traveled to California in the last month.
