Cobb’s Board of Commissioners will consider a final update to their CARES (Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security) Act allocation that will provide more money for rental and food assistance for those impacted by the pandemic. Earlier this year, the federal government provided Cobb County with a $132 million allocation to help mitigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic for county residents and businesses.

The commission quickly sent $48.5 million of CARES funding to help bolster small businesses and $14.3 million to various groups helping residents keep up with their rent or mortgage payments. An additional $1.7 million in assistance has gone out to programs providing food to those in need.

The board will consider adding an additional $350,000 for rental assistance to the Star-C group, and another $350,000 to provide emergency food assistance to those in need before the end of the year. The agenda item will also allow finance to use any unexpended CARES funds to reimburse Cobb public safety personnel for costs related to the pandemic.
