Some DMV Locations In NoVA To Reopen, 42K Coronavirus Cases

Road tests for passenger vehicles are not among the services offered by appointment at DMV locations.

VIRGINIA — As coronavirus-related restrictions started to be eased on Friday in Northern Virginia, some of the region's DMV locations will reopen.

The following locations will open by appointment only on June 1, Mondays through Saturdays:

  • Arlington (4150 South Four Mile Run Drive, Arlington, VA 22206), 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Franconia (6306 Grovedale Drive, Alexandria, VA 22310), 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Leesburg (945 Edwards Ferry Road NE, Leesburg, VA 20176), 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Prince William/Manassas (11270 Bulloch Drive, Manassas, VA 20109), 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.
  • Tysons Corner (1968 Gallows Road, Vienna, VA 22182), 8 a.m. - 6 p.m.

There have been extensions for credentials and vehicle registrations with upcoming expiration dates. The governor ordered DMV to extend the validity of driver's licenses and identification cards expiring on or before July 31 for 90 days or up to Aug. 31. Vehicle registrations that expire in March, April, and May are extended for 90 days, ones expiring in June are extended for 60 days, and those expiring in July are extended for 30 days.

Residents should use online or mail options when available. Road tests are not yet available at Virginia DMV centers.

  • Original driver's licenses
  • Original commercial driver's licenses (CDLs)
  • Replacement driver's licenses for a name change
  • Driver's license renewals, including CDLs
  • Original and renewal ID cards
  • ID card replacements for a name change
  • Original and replacement disabled parking placards
  • HAZMAT fingerprinting
  • Original and substitute titles
  • Original and transfer of vehicle registrations (no title)
  • Vital records
  • Compliance/Reinstatement of driving privileges, to include insurance payment plan set-up
  • Payment plan: monthly installment payment
  • Knowledge testing for learner’s permits and business partners (No road testing for passenger vehicles and motorcycles at this time)

On the numbers

On Friday, the Virginia Department of Health reported 1,132 additional cases of the coronavirus and 20 more deaths. There are 42,533 cumulative cases, 1,358 deaths and 4,529 hospitalizations in the commonwealth.

Virginia's number of currently hospitalized patients has increased in the past several days. The Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association reported 1,524 pending or confirmed COVID-19 patients currently hospitalized, up from 1,502 on Thursday, 1,459 on Wednesday and 1,403 on Tuesday. There have been 5,648 COVID-19 patients discharged from hospitals, up from 5,472 on Thursday.

Numbers of pending or confirmed COVID-19 patients using ventilators or intensive care beds have declined. There are 373 pending or confirmed COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in the intensive care unit, down from 416 on Thursday. The 193 COVID-19 patients using ventilators decreased by two since Wednesday. A total of 626 ventilators of 2,954 available at hospitals are in use, representing 21-percent use in Virginia. No hospitals are experiencing difficulty obtaining or restocking protective gear or other medical supplies in the next 72 hours.

The latest 7-day percent positivity rate for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) tests across Virginia is 13.4 percent, down from 13.8 percent on Thursday. Northern Virginia's latest 7-day positivity rate for PCR tests is 17.7 percent on May 26, down from 24 percent the week prior on May 19. PCR tests determine active infection through respiratory samples and are counted alone and with antibody tests on the VDH website.

Northern Virginia accounts for 604 new cases on Thursday. This includes 235 in Fairfax County, 113 in Prince William County, 111 in Loudoun County, 54 in Alexandria, 50 in Arlington County, 33 in Manassas, six in Manassas Park and two in Falls Church.

Here are the latest cumulative case updates for our coverage areas from Wednesday to Thursday:

  • Alexandria: 1,941 cases, 181 hospitalizations, 44 deaths; increase of 54 cases and one hospitalization
  • Arlington County: 2089 cases, 372 hospitalizations, 111 deaths; increase of 50 cases, one hospitalization and two deaths
  • Fairfax County: 10,738 cases, 1,281 hospitalizations, 378 deaths; increase of 235 cases, 14 hospitalizations and seven deaths
  • Fairfax City: 63 cases, eight hospitalizations, six deaths; no change
  • Falls Church: 55 cases, 11 hospitalizations, eight deaths; increase of two cases
  • Loudoun County: 2,429 cases, 159 hospitalizations, 62 deaths; increase of 111 cases and three cases, 1 death removed
  • Manassas: 1,004 cases, 63 hospitalizations, 10 deaths; increase of 33 cases
  • Manassas Park: 287 cases, 29 hospitalizations, six deaths; increase of six cases, one hospitalization removed
  • Prince William County: 5,270 cases, 447 hospitalizations, 101 deaths; increase of 113 cases and eight hospitalizations
  • Fredericksburg: 147 cases, 19 hospitalizations, no deaths; increase of five cases and one hospitalization
  • Spotsylvania County: 500 cases, 39 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of 12 cases, three hospitalizations and one death
  • Stafford County: 681 cases, 71 hospitalizations, four deaths; increase of nine cases and one hospitalizations
