NYC native WWII vet Sidney Walton dies at 102

One of the oldest remaining World War II veterans in the US has died at the age of 102.

Manhattan-born Sidney Walton died Saturday morning in Santa Monica, according to a news release from his family.

He was raised on the Lower East Side and attended City College of New York before enlisting in 1941 to “fight Hitler.”

Walton had been on a national tour to meet all 50 governors and raise awareness about contributions and sacrifices WWII vets made.

Walton enlisted in the army during World War II in 1941.

On Sept. 28, he visited Oklahoma, his 40th state, and met with Gov. Kevin Sitt.

Last year, the native New Yorker got a City Hall salute for his 101st birthday, and a proclamation from Mayor Bill de Blasio.

“My father was a living piece of history, reminding us not to forget the price of our freedoms today,” his son Paul Walton said.

“He inspired tremendous appreciation for all veterans.”
