Prince Harry: I was ‘trapped’ in royal family — and my brother, dad still are

Prince Harry said Sunday that he was “trapped” within the complex system of British royalty until wife Meghan Markle helped save him — and he feels “compassion” for Prince William and Prince Charles because they are still stuck in its mire.

“I was trapped, but I had no idea I was trapped,” Harry said in the Sussexes’ Oprah interview.

“My father and my brother are trapped. They don’t get to leave. And I have compassion for that,” Harry said.

Harry said he felt “let down” by his father, who has stopped taking his calls since he and Markle split from the royal family.

“There’s a lot to work through there — I feel really let down. Because he’s been through something similar. He knows what pain feels like, and Archie’s his grandson,” Harry told Oprah.

“But at the same time, of course, I will always love him … And I will continue to make it one of my priorities to heal that relationship.”

Regarding his brother, Harry said he and Prince William are giving each space at the moment.

“Time heals all things hopefully,” said Harry. “ I love William to bits. … we’ve been through hell together.”

Sunday night’s interview was Harry and Markle’s first since their highly-publicized break from the British royals.

Following their departure from England, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex briefly moved to Canada before landing in Los Angeles.
