OOLTEWAH, Tenn. (WJHL) — Rep. Mike Carter (R – Tenn.) died after a battle with pancreatic cancer, according to a tweet Sunday morning.

Family made the announcement public from Carter’s Twitter account.

Carter was a small business owner in addition to representing the 29th District in Tennessee.

The Associated Press reported Carter, a Republican from Ooltewah in eastern Tennessee, announced his cancer diagnosis in November. He had been hospitalized with COVID-19 in August, and doctors discovered the cancer during a trip to Vanderbilt University Medical Center.
