Roberta’s Opens a New York-Style Slice Shop

Plus, Rockefeller Center gets a sandwich stand — and more intel

Roberta’s has flipped its takeout stand, attached to the original Bushwick restaurant, into a New York-style slice shop called R Slice pizza. The wood-burning oven will continue to serve up Neopolitan-style pies, as well as a new area to prepare New York-style by-the-slice. Roberta’s bakery items like breads, baked goods, bagels, and sandwiches such as an Italian combo and porchetta focaccia, will be available says co-owner Carlo Mirarchi. R Slice shop is open Thursday through Sunday, from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.; in a few weeks, it will expand to operate every day.

Jupiter launches a sandwich stand

Speaking of porchetta, Jupiter, the Rockefeller restaurant from the King team, has set up a food truck at Rockefeller Plaza. The sandwiches come with a choice of apple sauce or salsa verde They’re available Tuesday through Saturday from noon until 6 p.m. according to a spokesperson.

Mari to host a Momofuku Ko alum for a pop-up

Eunjo Park, an alum of the now-closed Momofuku Ko and Ssam Bar, will host a one-night-only dinner at Sungchul Shim’s restaurant Mari (679 Ninth Avenue) on April 18. A 15-course menu will be served for $225 per person, with dishes like wagyu katsu. Some items will be a preview of what’s to come from Shim’s forthcoming Gui, a Korean steakhouse opening set to open later this year in Midtown. Thomas Raquel, a Le Bernardin alum, is making desserts. An optional wine pairing runs $145 per person. Tickets are online.

A Yemeni coffee house adds another location

Qahwah House, a coffee house that has become a nightlife hangout for the Muslim community, is opening another location, this time in Morningside Heights. Qahwah House is coming to 111th and 112th Street on Broadway, underneath Columbia University watering hole staple, the Heights Bar and Grill, the Columbia Spectator reports.
