A 100-year-old coal plant in Birmingham announced it is laying off dozens of employees.

BIRMINGHAM, AL β€” One of Birmingham's oldest businesses announced it is laying off 50 employees. A Birmingham Business Journal report said Birmingham's Bluestone Coke coal-processing plant made the announcement last week.

Bluestone Resources Inc. of West Virginia purchased the plant five months ago from ERP. The 100-year-old plant was formerly Sloss Coke and Walter Coke.
