Former Employee Arrested After Hotel Robbery

A robbery at the Residence Inn on John Hawkins Parkway in Hoover resulted in the arrest of a former employee of the hotel.

HOOVER, AL — A robbery at the Residence Inn in Hoover has resulted in the arrest of a former employee of the hotel. The incident occurred Monday at about 9:20 a.m.

Hoover Police responded to a report of an assault at the hotel on John Hawkins Parkway. Officers met with the hotel manager who reported she terminated a member of the housekeeping staff earlier that morning.

After being told she was fired, police say 19-year-old Jakeria Ti’yae Nunn-Smith went to the cash register and began taking money from the cash drawer, and when the manager attempted to prevent the theft, she was assaulted by the suspect. Witnesses at the scene reported that Nunn-Smith claimed to have a gun during the attack. She fled the scene but was captured by responding officers.

Nunn-Smith is charged with first degree robbery and was transferred yo Jefferson County Jail Tuesday.
