Chelsea are left sweating on the fitness of Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante ahead of clash with Manchester United after the pair limped off with knee injuries in Champions League rout of Juventus

Ben Chilwell and N'Golo Kante handed Chelsea a scare on Tuesday night as both players picked up knee injuries, making them a doubt to face Manchester United this weekend.

Chelsea produced a dazzling display to sweep Italian giants Juventus aside in a 4-0 drubbing at Stamford Bridge.

Yet the evening was soured with injuries to two key players and boss Thomas Tuchel is now made to play the waiting game to see if they will be fit enough to feature against a rejuvenated Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

Midfielder Kante was the first to pick up an issue as he had to withdraw late in the first half, to be replaced by Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

'He got stronger and stronger in the first half and then twisted his knee a little bit so hopefully it's not too bad,' Tuchel said, hoping Kante's withdrawal prevented any further damage.

With 20 minutes to go came the other worrying sight for home fans in what was supposed to be a night of celebration in going top of their Champions League group.

Chilwell went down in a heap and looked to be in real pain before he was helped off the field, limping down the tunnel.

'It worries me because he was in such a fantastic moment like Reece on the other side,' Tuchel added.

'They were in the best shape they could possibly be, so strong, full of confidence and such a lot of quality.'

He added: '(Chilwell) was in a lot of pain, now he feels a lot better. We have an examination tomorrow to be more precise.

'We hope for the best, hopefully we get away fingers crossed with not too bad news.'

Chilwell made a slow start to the season in winning his place but he has become a key component of Tuchel's league-leading side.

The England full-back has three goals and an assist so far this season having leapfrogged Marcos Alonso to be the primary option on the left.

Romelu Lukaku remained an unused substitute against Juventus but there is growing optimism that he will be fit to feature against his old side on Sunday.

United are currently under the guidance of Michael Carrick and they head into the weekend's game with newfound confidence after a 2-0 Champions League win over Villarreal in Spain.
