Switch member Tommy DeBarge died Thursday at the age of 64, according to several news sources.
The Daily Mail reported that DeBarge has had kidney and liver disease through the years in addition to getting COVID-19 earlier this year. His health took a turn for the worse recently, a family member told TMZ.
DeBarge’s sister Etterlene DeBarge remembered her late brother with a post of him playing the guitar in the clouds, the Daily Mail reported.
‘Tommy has gained his wings,’ Etterlene wrote in the Facebook post.
DeBarge and his band became popular in the 1970s with hits like “There’ll Never Be,” “I Call Your Name” and “Love Over & Over Again, FoxNews reported.
Tommy and his brother Bobby founded Switch, which proved to be enormously influential on future R&B and funk bands, according to TMZ.
One of those groups was a band made up of DeBarge siblings, an act that was simply named DeBarge.
