Before we get to this week’s OCVarsity Student Section of the Week, we have a special announcement.

The OCVarsity Basketball Top 25 Student Section Rankings come out next week.

For those student sections whose team is not in the playoffs, now is the time to make your case for being included in the Top 25 by showing off your best photos and videos of your student section on Twitter — and make sure you include #ocvfans.

For those of you with a team that is still alive in the playoffs, it’s time to turn it up a notch and go wild.

The Villa Park Black Pack took the 2018 OCVarsity Football Student Section title, can the Villa Park Blue Crew follow suit?

Find out next week and make your case.

Now as far as this week, let’s just say that it got a little messy for one student section … in a good way.

AND THE WINNER IS … THE EDISON MESS

The student section with the new name takes home the title.

The Edison Chargers ended up with a tough draw in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs, as they had to face the Santa Margarita Eagles.

Luckily for Edison, it was a home game. That means they didn’t run into the Eagles Nest; instead they had The Mess on their side, and for awhile it was a mess for their opponent.

The Chargers took the early lead against Santa Margarita and that spells trouble for an opponent when you give a team and a student section any momentum.

The game was tied at halftime. With Edison having a chance to pull off a huge win, the Mess went to the thunder clap.

Luckily Michael Huntley was there to witness it — and apparently so was ESPN.

The thunder clap gave the Chargers a push as they were only down by two at the end of three quarters.

Edison eventually ran out of gas in a 57-44 loss to the Eagles, but the sea of white brought the noise on Friday and it rattled a team that is predicted to make a deep run in the postseason.

The Mess knows that in order to match their fantastic teams, they have to go to deep lengths to stay crazy and support their Edison Chargers.

“Edison has such a great athletic tradition,” The Mess said in a statement. “We just so happy to show pride in our school. Shoutout to all the students that come out to support our teams and we are looking forward to keep the energy, bring the noise and show charger pride. We want our sports teams to know that when they compete they know that the student body is behind them. Go Chargers!”

This week’s OCVarsity Student Section of the week goes to The Edison Mess.

Let’s get Messy!

OCV HONORS

Capo Valley Cage

The Cage always shows up, but The Cage drove from South County all the way to Santa Monica on a Friday afternoon, and by the way, we all know how awful the 405 is on a Friday.

The Cage made the 70-mile drive to Santa Monica (also, add the 70 miles back home) with a good number of students showing their love and support to the Cougars. It was very impressive. That’s dedication.

It was a tough 73-29 loss to Santa Monica in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2AA playoffs, but I’m sure the players loved the support their student section gave them.

Kudos to The Cage!

Newport Harbor Tarpit

The Tarpit showed up again and showed up in big numbers, this time in their rematch against El Toro.

The Sailors won by three the first time they faced El Toro, but loud cheers and chants made victory easy this time as Newport Harbor earned a 56-37 victory in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 2AA playoffs on Friday.

One of the best student sections to work the social media market, The Tarpit never let down and kept the noise at a high.

If they do travel on Tuesday, then the Gold Zone of Temecula Valley has a battle on their hands.

La Habra Clan

I mean, how do you top last week?

After winning the Freeway League title in dramatic fashion against their rival, The Clan kept their energy at a high as La Habra took the 64-44 victory over Torrance in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 3AA playoffs.

The large and colorful crowd showed a lot of love for the Highlanders, who will look to get The Clan to keep it going as La Habra is looked at as a favorite to win the CIF-SS title.

Trabuco Hills Stable

The Stable brought it in their home game and showed up big.

It was a tough 64-60 loss to Campbell Hall of North Hollywood despite The Stable being in full force in the first round of the CIF-SS 2AA first round game against a program that has won three CIF State titles in the last 15 years.

No matter what, The Stable has been there all season for the South Coast League champions.
