Why are you seeking elective office?

As a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, I served on the Hillsborough County Executive Committee from 2012-16. While serving on the Executive Committee, I developed a strong interest in county government. When Commissioner Bergeron announced that he was not seeking re-election, it presented me with the opportunity to further pursue this interest.

The single most pressing issue facing our (board, district, etc.) is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.

The single most pressing issue is attracting and maintaining quality county government employees so our citizenry can receive the level of services that they deserve. The county needs to make certain that the people we serve and the people who serve them have the necessary supplies and equipment to keep them safe from Covid-19. I would support initiatives that would ensure that this is happening and continues to happen. Long range planning is crucial.

What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?

The major difference is that I have actual county government experience. While serving on the Hillsborough County Executive Committee, I was a member of the budget committees addressing the county jail, county nursing home and the human resources and information technology departments. I was also a member of the Blue Ribbon Committee which is responsible for recommending salaries for elected county officials to the full county delegation.

If you are a challenger, in what way has the current board or officeholder failed the community (or district or constituency)

N/A

Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform

The experiences gained serving on the Hillsborough County Executive Committee, while a member of the New Hampshire House of Representatives, have provided me with the knowledge and insight necessary to deliver strong, informed and effective leadership on behalf of the residents of the county. Providing quality government services at an affordable price is a priority. Experience counts.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?

As a former member and president of the Nashua Board of Education I served during a period of tremendous growth. Every school was renovated and all but one had an addition constructed. Pennichuck Middle School replaced an aging Spring Street Junior High School and Nashua High School North was built. A major portion of my thirteen years on the Board was spent as Chairman of the Human Resources Committee which acts on the hiring, retention and promotion of professional personnel. I also served two terms in the New Hampshire House of Representatives as a member of the Executive Departments and Administration Committee.

The best advice ever shared with me was …

“Our net worth is ultimately defined not by dollars, but rather by how well we serve others.” (Paul Allen)

What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?

A former landlord of mine, years ago, approached me on Election Day and said, “Dan, I want you to know that I voted for you because you have no personal agenda and no hidden agenda. You always act in the best interest of the community.” If elected County Commissioner, I will continue to act in your best interest.
