“The Sportsplex … is a skating rink, there’s a children’s playground inside. There were a number of young people, parents, going about their daily business when this happened.”

Jang said police were not releasing the victim’s name pending notification of next of kin, but believe they know who he is.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

“He was very well known to police, and we believe his death was targeted,” Jang said, adding that if the victim is who they think he is, he was linked to gang activity.

Police have linked a Grey Dodge pickup truck, which was later found torched in the 1200 block of Riverside Drive in Port Coquitlam, to the shooting.

Police are looking for any dashcam video that was shot at the Sportsplex as early as 8:30 a.m., or on the route between Langley and Port Coquitlam, including the Golden Ears Bridge or Lougheed Highway.

“If you have dashcam video … it’s very likely you may have in your vehicle on a memory stick right now the very suspect vehicle we are looking for,” he said.

“Depending on how good that video is, you may very well have the footage of the shooter and perhaps those who are aiding and abetting them.”
