Disgraced film exec Harvey Weinstein, 67, has reached a tentative $44 million deal to settle lawsuits by several women who have accused him of sexual misconduct.
The Wall Street Journal reports that $30 million of the settlement would go to the plaintiffs, who include the producer's accusers, former Weinstein Co. employees and creditors that issued loans to the studio before going bankrupt in 2018. The remaining $14 million would cover the legal fees of his former business associates, who were listed as co-defendants in several lawsuits.
"For the first time, as of yesterday … we now have an economic agreement in principle that is supported by the plaintiffs, the [New York attorney general’s] office, the defendants and all of the insurers," said attorney Adam Harris, who represents studio co-founder Bob Weinstein.
This deal would not affect the current criminal case pending against Weinstein in New York City, where he is due to go on trial June 3 on five charges of sexually assaulting two women, EUR reports.
