Oscar-nominated director Spike Lee is taking a stand against fashion brands that refuse to diversify their rosters, which can result in offensive concepts being brought to life. Lee took to Instagram to proclaim he is officially boycotting Prada and Gucci until they “hire some Black designers to be in da room when it happens.”

“It's Obvious To Da Peoples That They Don't Have A Clue When It Comes To Racist, Blackface Hateful Imagery," Lee said. "WAKE UP. Ya-Dig? Sho-Nuff. And Dat's Da "Coonery And Buffoonery” Truth,Ruth.”

This week, Gucci apologized for selling a sweater that social media users said resembled blackface, according to CNN.

Gucci took to Twitter on Wednesday and said it “deeply apologizes for the offense caused by the wool balaclava jumper.” Adding, “we consider diversity to be a fundamental value to be fully upheld, respected, and at the forefront of every decision we make.”
