103-year-old celebrates birthday with a vaccine at Lowell hospital
Hospital staff brought out cake and balloons for the special moment.
It was a momentous occasion Friday in Lowell. As many lined up to get their COVID-19 vaccine shots at Lowell General Hospital’s vaccination site, among them one person was celebrating a special birthday.
That person was Luis Valencia Torres, who turned “103 years young” and received his second dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, the hospital posted on its Facebook page.
While waiting the 15 minutes required following the injection, hospital staff surprised Valencia Torres with balloons, cake, and a “heartfelt rendition of Happy Birthday.” Other patients sung along, while waiting, to join in on the festivities.
The hospital thanked Luis, following the moment that brought people together. “It was truly a special moment for us all. Happy birthday, Luis and thank you for giving us the privilege of vaccinating and celebrating you!” the post reads.
