ATLANTA, GA — Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta partnered with Fulton County Board of Health to become a mass COVID-19 vaccine distribution center through at least March, stadium officials announced Wednesday.

Distribution of the vaccine began Jan. 4 for the Phase 1 rollout, which included medical staff, front-line workers and first responders. More than 4,000 people were served at the stadium in the first week of the vaccine rollout, according to a press release from Mercedes-Benz Stadium. As of Jan. 11, Georgians age 65 and older are eligible to receive the coronavirus vaccine, as long as vaccines are available to do so.

"We are very proud to partner with Fulton County Board of Health to offer Mercedes-Benz Stadium to host vaccine distribution," said Steve Cannon, CEO of AMB Sports and Entertainment. "This is a time for our communities to unite together and do what’s right for our citizens. Mercedes-Benz Stadium offers the opportunity to socially distance while servicing large numbers of people at once. We are honored to be a part of this solution and will do it as long as possible to serve our community."

This is not the first time Mercedes-Benz Stadium has served Fulton County residents as more than a sports arena. In December, the stadium partnered with Fulton County and State Farm Arena to be a host site for early voting during the U.S. Senate runoff elections in Georgia, serving more than 10,000 early voters, the release said.

Because the partnership was so successful, Mercedes-Benz Stadium officials offered the stadium facility again to be a distribution site for Fulton County. As the COVID-19 vaccine rollout continues, officials from the stadium and the county will continue to discuss how to expand the operation to serve more residents as quickly as possible.
