‘Ryan had plans for Springfield’: Former Gov. Deval Patrick praises late Springfield Mayor Charles V. Ryan

SPRINGFIELD — Before he exploded onto the Bay State’s political scene in 2007 with eyes on the governor’s seat, Deval L. Patrick met Springfield Mayor Charles V. Ryan as a first-timer hoping to unlock the secrets of a successful campaign.

Following Ryan’s death at 94 this week, the former two-term governor and presidential candidate recalled the first time he met Ryan at Springfield’s City Hall.
