Updates: Lanes reopen after rolling tire causes crash on I-81 in LaFayette

UPDATE: All lanes of Interstate 81 have reopened, according to 511ny.org, a site run by the New York State Department of Transportation.

LAFAYETTE, N.Y. -- A tire from a disabled vehicle rolled across Interstate 81 on Saturday night and caused a multiple-vehicle crash on the northbound side of the highway, according to Onondaga County 911 dispatchers.

The left lane on the southbound side is closed and all lanes of the northbound side were initially closed because of the crash, according to the New York State Department of Transportation.

It was initially reported that multiple cars crashed at 6:37 p.m., according to dispatch logs. According to scanner reports, a tire from the driver’s side of a van rolled from into the northbound lanes.

A spokesman for the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office was not immediately available for comment.
