GOSHEN, NY — Despite the new coronavirus pandemic, Legoland New York is still looking toward opening in 2021.

The 250-room, four-story hotel and all of Legoland's main buildings have been built and interior and facade work are being completed and the rides are being installed, including the brand new world premiere LEGO Factory, according to spokesman.

When exactly the $500 million amusement park will open is still unknown, but it will be the largest of Merlin Entertainments' eight Legoland parks around the world.

The park will feature 50 rides and attractions, occupying about a third of the site's 500 acres.

Officials said the road work on the new Exit 125 on Route 17 is in its final stages. In the next week or two, the current Exit 125 will close permanently as we prepare to open the new interchange.

Legoland had been scheduled to open July 4, but the new coronavirus pandemic got in the way with businesses, including amusement parks, shut down.

At the time, Stephanie Johnson, Legoland New York Resort's divisional director, said they were in an unprecedented situation that affected businesses worldwide.

"By opening Legoland New York Resort in 2021, we are building an attraction that not only meets our high standards, it also gives our guests the best possible experience."

The park had sold annual passes and single-day tickets when the original opening day was announced. They will be honored when the resort opens.

Park officials said the plan is to still hire more than 1,000 employees to staff the park and hotel. The company said it will honor for 2021 the offers to those hired for the 2020 season.
