New York City on Thursday cemented a decision to use controversial academic screens for many of the city’s schools, which were paused during the pandemic under former Mayor Bill de Blasio.

De Blasio had halted the practice of using state test scores, attendance and other so-called screens to determine admission, moving to a lottery system instead for middle schools.
