Over 1 Million Have First Coronavirus Vaccine Dose In Virginia

The state reached a milestone of 1 million people with one dose, while over 317,000 are fully vaccinated.

VIRGINIA — On Sunday, Virginia has reached the 1 million mark for people with the first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.

When accounting for a state population of approximately 8.5 million, the 1,005,922 people with one dose represent approximately 11.8 percent of the population. There are 317,526 who are fully vaccinated, or about 3.7 percent of the population.

To date, 1,323,448 doses have been administered, or about 76 percent of the 1,730,200 doses distributed.

According to demographic data, here is the breakdown of people vaccinated by age group:

  • 10-19: 7,536 with one dose, 1,834 with two doses
  • 20-29: 128,586 with one dose, 38,244 with two doses
  • 30-39: 185,805 with one dose, 55,650 with two doses
  • 40-49: 198,591 with one dose, 57,159 with two doses
  • 50-59: 215,902 with one dose, 59,368 with two doses
  • 60-69: 207,884 with one dose, 42,813 with two doses
  • 70-79: 216,579 with one dose, 30,876 with two doses
  • 80 and over: 162,565 with one dose, 31,582 with two doses

A new statewide vaccine registration system is expected to launch at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 16. The Virginia Department of Health directed local health districts to shut down their vaccination registration systems as of 5 p.m. Friday. Existing waitlists from the local health district websites will be imported into the new system.

In Northern Virginia, all local health districts but the Fairfax Health District will use the new statewide registration system. The Fairfax Health District, which includes Fairfax County, Falls Church and Fairfax City, directed residents to continue using its registration form.

COVID-19 data

On Sunday, 2,575 new coronavirus cases were reported, and the seven-day average is 2,982 daily cases. Northern Virginia had 562 new cases and a seven-day average of 692. Cumulative cases to date stand at 549,999.

There were 16 new deaths reported on Sunday, bringing the cumulative total to 7,012 deaths attributed to COVID-19.

Current hospitalizations fell from 1,989 to 1,904 on Sunday. Current patients include 392 in the intensive care units and 238 on ventilators. Northern Virginia has 313 current patients.

The 1,904 current COVID-19 patients represent approximately 14 percent of the 13,160 occupied hospital beds in Virginia. According to the Virginia Hospital & Healthcare Association, ICU occupancy among all hospital patients is at 77 percent, and ventilator use is at 34 percent.

The statewide seven-day average of positive PCR tests is 9.6 percent as of Feb. 10, and Northern Virginia's average is 8.8 percent. The state is averaging 24,998 PCR testing encounters per day, which is down from a peak average of 35,023 testing encounters on Jan. 14. Northern Virginia has an average of 6,201 daily PCR testing encounters.

  • Alexandria: 9,985 cases, 496 hospitalizations, 104 deaths; increase of 39 cases
  • Arlington County: 12,589 cases, 747 hospitalizations, 209 deaths; increase of 39 cases
  • Fairfax County: 63,800 cases, 3,415 hospitalizations, 829 deaths; increase of 255 cases, five hospitalizations and one death
  • Fairfax City: 461 cases, 35 hospitalizations, 12 deaths; increase of five cases
  • Falls Church: 327 cases, 20 hospitalizations, seven deaths; increase of two cases
  • Loudoun County: 22,186 cases, 815 hospitalizations, 193 deaths; increase of 84 cases
  • Manassas: 3,919 cases, 157 hospitalizations, 33 deaths; increase of five cases
  • Manassas Park: 1,104 cases, 66 hospitalizations, eight deaths; no change
  • Prince William County: 37,886 cases, 1,352 hospitalizations, 327 deaths; increase of 133 cases and two hospitalizations
  • Fredericksburg: 1,701 cases, 90 hospitalizations, 14 deaths; increase of eight cases
  • Spotsylvania County: 7,920 cases, 258 hospitalizations, 88 deaths; increase of 36 cases
  • Stafford County: 9,140 cases, 297 hospitalizations, 54 deaths; increase of 79 cases
