Police search for 2 suspects in fatal shooting on Cleveland’s East Side

CLEVELAND, Ohio — A 21-year-old man died late Saturday night after being shot multiple times in the Central neighborhood on the East Side, according to police.

The Cuyahoga County Medical Examiner’s Office identified the victim as Javonte Harris of Cleveland. Harris died of his wounds at MetroHealth Medical Center.

According to police, a large group of people were gathered in the area of East 38th Street and Longwood Avenue at about 10:24 p.m. Saturday when two males in white T-shirts approached Harris. Witnesses tell police shots were heard moments later.

The two males left the area in a dark-colored older-style van, police say. When officers arrived, they found a crowd of people around Harris, who was lying wounded in the street, and began performing first aid before he was taken to MetroHealth.

The shooting remains under investigation. Anyone with information can contact investigators at 216-621-1234.
