Grieving relative attacks baby-killer in court after sentencing

A relative took justice into his own hands after an Indiana dad was sentenced for the murder of his 3-month-old son — sucker-punching the killer in the face as he walked out of the courtroom, new video shows.

Kwin Boes had just been sentenced to 25 years — with 19 years in prison and six on work release as part of a plea deal — in connection with the blunt-force head-trauma death of his infant son, Parker Boes, last year, for which he had pleaded guilty, local station WEVV reported. He was also required to pay his son’s funeral expenses.

Following the sentencing, deputies escorted Boes out of the courtroom in cuffs and chains as Parker’s uncle, Jeremiah Matthew Hartley, lay in wait, video obtained by the station shows.

Hartley seized the opportunity to attack — punching Boes with such force that blood streamed across the floor, and his jail-issued sandal went flying.

Deputies separated the men, and Hartley was escorted away in cuffs. He faces 179 days in jail for contempt, on misdemeanor battery charges from the state, according to the report.

“He’s going through some things. He’s upset anyway,” the little boy’s grandmother Lisa Hartley told the station of Jeremiah. “That really upset him just to see him come out; I don’t know if he heard how much time he got or if he was just upset about his nephew. This is a horrible crime.”

She told the outlet she had no idea her son was outside, or that he planned to attack Boes.

“Parker was such a sweetheart,” she recalled of her grandson. “He smiled all the time. He was just a happy baby. He wasn’t even 3 months old yet.”

“My grandson’s not coming back ever,” she added through tears. “I don’t care what happens to Kwin. I don’t care what happens to him ever.”

Other relatives said they had hoped Boes would have faced a harsher sentence for Parker’s death.

“I wish that the defendant and the court could’ve been in my shoes and had seen what I’d seen,” the baby’s grandfather Mike Hartley told the station. “To see this small baby lie there and fight for his life.”

The family told the outlet that Hartley’s arrest only makes things more difficult as they grieve the loss of Parker and fight legal battles.
