An Atlanta-area woman surrendered her Kia van to the bottom of the Etowah River to escape the grips of a scary spider that had crawled onto her lap.

The unidentified woman told Georgia State Troopers that she was so spooked by an arthropod that jumped onto her lap that she abandoned her vehicle and watched as it, and presumably the eight-legged creepy crawler, disappeared underwater, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported.

According to state police, the arachnophobe had pulled her vehicle near the river’s edge so that she could slip her kayak into the river for a day of adventure. That’s when, she said, she spotted the spider on her lap and made a run for it.

Police were called to the scene but, by the time they arrived, the van had rolled away, floated down river and disappeared from site. The driver’s insurance company will reportedly foot the bill to have divers search for the amazing spider van and see if it can be extricated.

“Within seconds, it was totally submerged. A passer-by in a boat attempted to locate the van, but without success,” a state trooper reported said.
