What started with a promising Day 1 performance ended with disappointment as Summer Britcher struggled in the final heat of the women's single luge event at the 2018 Winter Olympics.

The York County native entered the final day in the top-10 and moved up to eighth place after her third run. However, a shaky final run caused her to fall to the bottom of the standings, finishing in 19th place.

Right from the start, Britcher, 23, bumped into the right wall and was never able to right herself from there. She finished with her worst time of the Olympics, 48.770.

A graduate of Susquehannock High School, Britcher was competing in her second Olympics. In 2014, she was the youngest woman on the U.S. Olympic luge team in Sochi, where she finished in 15th place.

The U.S. failed to place anyone on the medal stands in this year's event. Britcher's teammate and U.S. flag bearer, Erin Hamlin, finished sixth. Emily Sweeney crashed in her final run and failed to finish.
