1-Month-Old Baby Left At Stafford County 7-Eleven: Police

Police found a baby at a Stafford 7-Eleven on Saturday. The child's father said he would come pick up the child, but he never arrived.

STAFFORD COUNTY, VA — A 1-month-old baby was left at a Stafford County 7-Eleven on Saturday evening, according to the Stafford County Sheriff's Office. The child's father told deputies he would come pick up the child, but he never arrived, police said.

The baby was turned over to Child Protective Services.

Authorities identified the baby's father as 32-year-old Joseph Carratura. Carratura has not been charged with any crimes, but deputies are still looking to speak with him about his child.

Around 6 p.m. on Saturday, deputies responded to a medical emergency near Ferry Road and Randolph Road in Stafford. During an investigation, authorities determined a vehicle parked at the 7-Eleven on White Oak Road was involved, according to the police report.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office said it has not released specific details about the nature of the emergency due to laws protecting the privacy of people who received medical care.

Deputies said they found the one-month-old infant who was left unattended in the parked vehicle at the 7-Eleven. One deputy comforted the child as investigators contacted the baby's father, according to the sheriff's office.

Authorities said the father, Carratura, had been near the scene of the medical emergency earlier in the evening. Deputies told him to come get his child.

Carratura said he would come to the convenience store. The sheriff's office said that after 45 minutes, Carratura had still not arrived. The baby was handed over to Child Protective Services.

"Deputies are very interested in speaking with Carratura," the Stafford County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook.

The sheriff's office asked anyone with more information about Carratura's location call them at 540-658-4400.
