WASHINGTON, DC — In an alarming incident captured on video, the doors to the operator compartment on a Blue Line train apparently swung open over the weekend (video embedded below).

ABC 7's Kevin Lewis tweeted the video, quoting two teens who said they were on their way home from Six Flags America when the door swung open Saturday at around 5:31 p.m. between the Benning Road and Stadium-Armory stations.

One of the teens told him that the "controls were right there."

The compartment was unoccupied (Metro trains have these compartments at each end of the train so they can be driven in either direction).

ABC 7 quoted Metro as saying that a special key is required to operate the control console, so there was no threat to rider safety, although some switches could have caused the train to come to a stop.
