Sen. Raphael Warnock was slammed over a since-deleted tweet saying “the meaning of Easter is more transcendent” than the resurrection of Jesus.
“Warnock deleted his heretical tweet. He should delete Reverend in front of his name too,” constitutional law attorney Jenna Ellis tweeted on Easter Sunday.

Her comment came in response to Warnock tweeting: “The meaning of Easter is more transcendent than the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Whether you are Christian or not, through a commitment to helping others we are able to save ourselves.”
The tweet was posted by Warnock’s staff and was not approved before it was published, according to the Georgia senator’s office.
‘A SCANDAL TO THE FAITH’: BLACK PASTORS URGE WARNOCK TO REVERSE ABORTION POSITION
Easter is one of the most sacred holidays for Christians, marking when Jesus was resurrected from the dead following His crucifixion.
Others joined Ellis in criticizing Warnock, who is an ordained minister, with some also accusing him of heresy.
No, actually, that’s the meaning. https://t.co/m3r4QicTMv

With all due respect, this is literally the opposite of what the Gospel says. Ephesians 2 states that clearly. Faith alone, Christ alone.

There is nothing more transcendent than the resurrection of the God-man, Jesus. Literally: his resurrection transcends our finite conceptions of science & rationality. That the Word became flesh, dwelt among us, then was slain for our sins only to conquer death 3 days later? 🤯

What kind of Reverend would say something like this. Jesus Christ died and then rose again to take the sins of the world away. You are poisoning the minds of Christians for political purposes. https://t.co/BQ5Sw3TEZh

This is a great example of the classic heresy of Pelagianism: humans have the free will to achieve human perfection without divine grace. https://t.co/ZSjYXyxR6L

However, MSNBC’s Joy Reid defended the Georgia senator before the tweet was deleted and condemned Ellis for accusing Warnock of heresy.
“This lady is literally calling the pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church — The Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s church — a heretic. This actually happened today. Madame, I’m gonna take @ReverendWarnock’s take, as a pastor and a scholar on the Word over yours, if you don’t mind,” Reid tweeted in response to Ellis.

Warnock also posted another Easter message, remembering Martin Luther King Jr. on the 53rd anniversary of his assassination.
This Easter Sunday, let’s also remember the life of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. — Georgia’s greatest son, who was killed 53 years ago today.
May the legacy & lessons of Dr. King continue to light a path for our state and nation toward an abiding peace and a just democracy. pic.twitter.com/EWyK1vrmyy
